Weather & Seasons in Tasmania

To get the most out of your time in Tasmania, we could recommend planning and taking note of the seasons and typical weather you may experience during your trip.

It's worth noting that while Tasmania does have four distinct seasons, given its proximity to the Southern Ocean, the weather in Tassie can vary greatly on any given day, and in any season. The warmest months are through Summer - December, January, and February - however, even in Summer, Tasmania can have cold, windy and wet weather. Autumn and Spring typically bring still and sunny days, while in winter Tassie turns into a winter wonderland with snow found in higher altitude regions.

We would recommend that you stay hydrated, be sun smart and dress for the conditions - it's worth packing a warm jacket as well as a wind and rain proof jacket no matter when you're visiting beautiful Tasmania.

Tasmania's Hidden Jewel

The town is located in Tasmania’s breathtaking East Coast, north of Freycinet Peninsula. Whether you are on a charter boat to dive and fish its waters, or driving around town in a campervan, you would not run out of things to do in Bicheno. In fact, we have listed some of the activities you can do around town for that much-deserved holiday.

Go For A Walk

There are so many great places you can go for a stroll around town. The Foreshore Path and Redbill Beach to the north and the Blowhole to the south.

The hike up Whaler’s lookout is a must if you want to be rewarded with breathtaking views of the town. Make sure you pick up a map of the town and do the History Walk to get a better understanding of the town.

Relax Amidst Beautiful Surroundings

Cast a line from the gulch jetty and watch the fishing fleet returning at the end of the day. You can also drive your campervan to the area’s many national parks. Set up camp and sleep under the stars.

Book a penguin tour and take snapshots of the birds coming ashore at dusk. Go diving or snorkelling to explore the region’s rich marine life.

Watch Out For Whales

If you are visiting town between July and November, go whale watching in Waub’s bay. There are also plenty of dolphins to spot throughout the year. There are also plenty of diving and snorkelling spots for those that want to explore the town’s rich underwater world.

You can also charter a glass-bottomed boat and go for a ride out on the bay, a highly recommended activity during summer months.

Enjoy The Outdoors And Gourmet Finds

Drive your campervan to Denison Beach and make the short walk to check out The Porches sandstone formations in the north. Denison Beach, as well as Redbill Beach are also great surfing destinations. Aspley National Park has a range of hiking trails that suit every type of adventurer. There’s also Freycinet National Park where you can hike up the world famous Wineglass Bay. After you have worked up an appetite, try Bicheno’s cafes and restaurants for fresh seafood and their great local beer and wine.

Shop For Souvenirs And Taste Local Wines

Sunday markets are great places to shop for souvenirs. Or you can drive your campervan south of town to find local vineyards. There is no better way to taste the region’s best vino.

Tasmania is home to many gorgeous towns and Bicheno tops the list of places you should not miss on your next road trip. So hire a campervan, get your friends or family together and explore one of Tasmania’s many hidden jewels!
